JOHANNESBURG – Police are searching for two suspects who shot and killed former footballer Marc Batchelor.
Batchelor, who was travelling with his gardener at the time, was shot by two men riding motorbikes as he was driving into his home in Olivedale, Johannesburg on Monday evening.
He was shot through the window of his car several times and died at the scene.
Gauteng Police spokesperson Colonel Lungelo Dlamini says police are following several leads.
“At this stage, we don’t know what is the motive for the attack but there are several leads that are being followed to arrest the suspects,” Dlamini said.
Dlamini said the gardener was not harmed during the shooting as the assailants were targeting Batchelor.
Batchelor played for several prominent sides, including Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
He was also a witness in the high-profile Oscar Pistorius murder trial.
