Durban – A 25-year-old man was expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday after he was arrested by police from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit for carrying a large quantity of drugs.
Police spokesman, Brigadier Jay Naicker said the man was arrested after he was found with drugs in his possession near the railway station and bus terminal in Durban.
“Police confiscated three and half-moons of rock cocaine, 1200 capsules of heroin, 180 pieces of heroin stones and 160 pieces of rock cocaine. He was instantly arrested and charged for being in possession of drugs at the Durban Central police station,” Naicker said.
He said the quantity of drugs seized on him had an estimated street value of more than R57 000.
“Police investigations are continuing and we cannot rule out the possibility of additional charges being added after the suspect appears in court,” Naicker said.
Meanwhile, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula has commended police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit for their dedication in breaking the backs of criminals who peddle drugs.
“We once again appeal to communities to continue reporting drug dealers to police and ensure that our youth are not exposed to these notorious individuals who introduce them to these dependence producing substances,” he said.
