Cape Town – Western Cape Community Safety MEC Alan Winde has called on Police Minister Bheki Cele to intervene in gang-ravaged areas of Mitchells Plain.

At least 25 people have been killed in gang-related murders in Mitchells Plain, since February this year.

Winde has asked for the army to be deployed, saying this will bring stability in the area.

But his request was turned down as Cele insists that there is no need for the defence force to be deployed in the province.
