Johannesburg – A Johannesburg man was held hostage and later dumped in Soweto when armed criminals pounced on him as he arrived at his apartment in Albertville, Randurg, on Tuesday evening.
CCTV footage shows the man was accosted by at least two armed men, who approached him in his white Audi A4, pointed a firearm at him and dumped him in the back seat of the car before speeding away with the car and a getaway car.
The incident happened just after 7pm.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele confirmed the incident and said the police were investigating a case of hijacking at the Sophiatown Police Station.
“The case of hijacking was opened at Sophiatown police station, the victim was dropped in Soweto with no injuries,” he said.
Makhubele said the car had yet to be recovered and police were yet to make any arrests.
