JOHANNESBURG – National Police Commissioner, Khehla Sitole, has welcomed sentences given to police killers.
Nine perpetrators were sentenced to a combined nine life sentences while two were given a total of 32 years imprisonment.
Their sentencing concludes cases relating to the murder of four police officers between 2012 and 2017.
Sitole says the sentences come as a form of closure to the colleagues and especially the families of the fallen heroes.
National police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said as much as it brings closure to families, it also brings closure to colleagues.
The SAPS is also urging South Africans to be part of efforts to fight crime. It’s running a programme to enrol and train volunteers.
Muridili urged people to go to their nearest police station and enrol.
